  • We will not be intimidated into adopting
    technologies that actively harm creative,
    familial, or social communities.

We will not willingly utilize generative AI in our
work and believe it undermines the integrity
and intention of the creative endeavor.

We understand the ethical, environmental, and
social implications of 'shortcuts' that fray the
socialfabric and threaten to unravel it.

We reject the notion that we will be 'left behind'
if we do not adopt generative AI and will not
choose a path out of fear.

We believe that generative AI in its core
operations and functions is in violation of
    inalienable human rights.

We are committed to a future where people
can believe their own eyes, ears, and instincts.

We do not gatekeep creativity, we defend it -
and each other - from profiteers and exploitation.

We commit to stretching ourselves beyond
fear-based initiatives that numb our senses and
dull our spirit and stand in solidarity with who
    endeavor to do the same.

We will not be intimidated into adopting technologies that actively harm both the creative community and society at large.

We will not utilize generative AI in our work and believe it undermines the integrity and intention of the creative act.

We understand the ethical, environmental, and social implications of 'shortcuts' that fray the social fabric and threaten to unravel it.

We reject the notion that we will be 'left behind' or 'miss out' by not adopting generative AI techniques. There will always be a place for human output and we will protect that space.

We believe that the most vital element of art, design, writing, music, collage, dance, and all disciplines of the humanities is listening and interpreting, not generating for output's sake.

We are committed to a future where people can believe their own eyes, ears, and instincts, and take responsibility for the active role we play in shaping that future.

We are not gatekeeping creativity, we are protecting it - and each other - from profiteers and thieves.

We commit to stretching ourselves beyond fear-based initiatives that numb our senses and dull our spirit and stand in solidarity with everyone who endeavors to do the same.

THE GENUINE ARTICLE

Certifications play an important role in helping people make healthy choices when it comes to their food, hair care, skin care, vitamins, and many other products and services. Consumer products have long been corrupted by prioritizing bottom lines over safety for the people that use them, the animals that are subject to them, and the environments that are invaded by them. Cruelty Free, Climate Neutral, and Gluten-free are examples of certifications that help consumers identify brands, products, and initiatives that have decided to act responsibly and take measures to ensure they are aligned with ethical and health concerns. It's time that creative ouput came with a certification of its own.

There are increasing reports of AI data centers causing water shortages in the communities where they are established. It has been estimated that these communities may experience water rationing if these centers are allowed to continue to consume resources. Air pollution from data centers is projected to cause thousands of premature deaths a year with reports of an increase in asthma and heart attacks. AI chatbots have been accused of exacerbating and encouraging suicidal behavior and lead to the dehumization of decision-making. And the proliferation of generative AI used to make creative fields 'more efficient' has led to the decimation of senior careers while narrowing opportunities for entry-level professionals.

We believe that human creativity will always endure and want to help creators connect with clients, customers, collectors, friends, and supporters in order to build and strengthen those connections. It is too easy to feel isolated and overpowered by the proliferation of claims that those who refuse to use AI will be 'left behind' and are resisting progress. But there are more of us that believe this technology is not progress at all and is, instead, regression towards a future that diminishes the physical and mental wellbeing of human beings, the environment, and ethical conduct. For creators, taking the pledge and displaying the IAmAIFree logo is a signal that you stand against the harmful impacts of generative AI and do not use it in your work. For those seeking to work with and support AI-Free material, the mark is a beacon to help you align with like-minded partners and collaborators.
